Business Installing EV Chargers in NY? Get Up to $5,000 Per Installation as a State Tax Credit

New York's alternative-fuels and electric-vehicle recharging property credit can reduce business taxes for qualifying charging or alternative-fuel installations.

Who

Eligible businesses and taxpayers that install qualifying alternative-fuel vehicle refueling or electric-vehicle recharging property used predominantly in a New York trade or business.

What to do

Start here: Keep itemized installation costs and incentive/grant records and claim the applicable credit form with the New York business or personal return.

Eligibility: The property must meet New York's qualifying equipment rules, be located in New York and generally be used at least 50% in a trade or business.

What you get

The credit equals the lesser of $5,000 or 50% of qualifying property cost per installation.

Benefit: Up to $5,000 per qualifying installation.

Possible value: Up to $5,000 per installation, subject to qualified cost and other incentives.

Good to know

Important: This is primarily a business-use credit, not the ordinary homeowner EV-charger incentive. Grants can reduce qualifying cost, and the credit is generally nonrefundable with carryforward.

Availability: Active; currently extended for qualifying property placed in service before January 1, 2029

Status: Business/employer-facing · —

Why people miss it: Businesses may search utility rebates without realizing the state tax code separately subsidizes qualifying charging infrastructure.
