Coastal NY Homeowner Can't Get Insurance? C-MAP Can Help Place Coverage Through Participating Insurers
New York's Coastal Market Assistance Program (C-MAP) helps qualifying coastal homeowners who are losing coverage seek insurance through a voluntary network of participating insurers.
Who
Qualifying owner-occupied one- to four-family homes and condo/co-op units in designated coastal portions of NYC, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester that meet program rules.
Where: Designated coastal areas of Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester
What to do
Start here: Contact C-MAP/NYPIUA after receiving the qualifying coverage notice and provide the property and insurance documentation needed for placement review.
Eligibility: The property must fall in the program's designated coastal geography and the owner generally must have received a nonrenewal, cancellation or conditional nonrenewal for a reason other than nonpayment.
What you get
C-MAP serves as a placement mechanism for homeowners having trouble obtaining property insurance in designated coastal areas.
Benefit: Access to another route for obtaining homeowners coverage when the ordinary voluntary market is difficult.
Possible value: No fixed subsidy; the benefit is access to potential coverage, not a discounted premium.
Good to know
Important: C-MAP does not guarantee cheap coverage or acceptance. Geography is narrow and eligibility depends on the reason existing coverage is ending.
Availability: Active
Why people miss it: Coastal homeowners may assume a nonrenewal means the only remaining option is a very expensive last-resort policy.
