Eligible SNAP Household? Buy Prepared Restaurant Meals With EBT and Get 10% Off

New York's SNAP Restaurant Meals Program lets certain households use SNAP EBT at participating restaurants and gives a 10% discount on the meal.

Who

SNAP households in which all members are qualifying older adults age 60+, people with disabilities and their spouses, or people experiencing homelessness under RMP rules.

What to do

Start here: Check the RMP eligibility indicator in ebtEDGE and use OTDA's participating-restaurant list.

Eligibility: The household must already receive SNAP and be identified as RMP-eligible. OTDA says there is no separate RMP application; eligible cases are updated automatically.

What you get

Eligible households can purchase prepared meals at participating restaurants with SNAP benefits.

Benefit: Use of existing SNAP benefits for prepared restaurant meals plus a 10% discount at participating restaurants.

Possible value: 10% off qualifying restaurant meals; RMP does not increase the household's monthly SNAP allotment.

Good to know

Important: RMP does not add extra SNAP dollars. Only participating restaurants can accept RMP EBT, and eligibility is limited to the specified household categories.

Availability: Active; participating restaurants vary by county

Why people miss it: SNAP users are normally told benefits cannot buy hot prepared restaurant food, so many never learn about this targeted exception.
