Using WIOA for Job Training? Ask Whether It Can Also Cover Child Care, Transportation, Tools or Other Support
WIOA allows local workforce programs to provide supportive services when they are necessary for someone to participate in employment or training activities and are not available elsewhere.

Start here: Before paying out of pocket, ask the Career Center/WIOA case manager for the local supportive-services policy and request approval for the specific cost.
Eligibility: The service must be necessary for WIOA participation, permitted by the local policy and unavailable through other resources. Needs-related payments have additional rules and generally require enrollment in training.
What you get
Local WIOA programs may cover support such as transportation, child/dependent care, housing assistance, books, fees, supplies, tools, work clothing, testing or other approved needs.
Benefit: Local-program payment or reimbursement for approved participation-related support costs.
Possible value: No single national amount; local workforce boards set categories, limits and documentation rules.
